00:00:00 --> 00:00:03

So inshallah ta'ala beginning from now this

00:00:03 --> 00:00:06

year onwards, the khatira that I give will

00:00:06 --> 00:00:07

be on Wednesday nights rather than Tuesday.

00:00:07 --> 00:00:10

So every Wednesday inshallah will be my lecture

00:00:10 --> 00:00:11

inshallah ta'ala epic.

00:00:11 --> 00:00:13

And of course, one of the ways we

00:00:13 --> 00:00:15

want to begin is that this is a

00:00:15 --> 00:00:16

new year for us.

00:00:16 --> 00:00:18

Yes, it is a Gregorian calendar, but still

00:00:18 --> 00:00:21

psychologically we feel a sense of time.

00:00:21 --> 00:00:23

We feel a sense of the swiftness of

00:00:23 --> 00:00:23

time.

00:00:23 --> 00:00:25

I'll betray my age, you all know roughly

00:00:25 --> 00:00:26

my age.

00:00:26 --> 00:00:28

I have memories of 1985 so vividly as

00:00:28 --> 00:00:32

a child, 1995 when I decided to pursue

00:00:32 --> 00:00:34

my Islamic studies, 2005 I came decided to

00:00:34 --> 00:00:37

come back to the country of America, 2015

00:00:37 --> 00:00:38

I had another major decision.

00:00:39 --> 00:00:40

Now we have 2025.

00:00:40 --> 00:00:42

SubhanAllah, how quickly time flies.

00:00:43 --> 00:00:44

Those who are older than me, you have

00:00:44 --> 00:00:46

memories may have 1975 as well.

00:00:46 --> 00:00:49

SubhanAllah, this is the reality of life, how

00:00:49 --> 00:00:50

quickly time flies.

00:00:50 --> 00:00:52

And yes, it is even a Gregorian calendar,

00:00:52 --> 00:00:53

it doesn't matter.

00:00:53 --> 00:00:55

But the reminder of time is eternal.

00:00:56 --> 00:00:57

Doesn't matter what the day is, we should

00:00:57 --> 00:01:01

always be constantly thinking of time and how

00:01:01 --> 00:01:02

swiftly time flies.

00:01:03 --> 00:01:05

And I recited in Salatul Isha, a verse

00:01:05 --> 00:01:07

in the Quran, which we should also pause

00:01:07 --> 00:01:11

and think about, where Allah says, أَوَلَمْ نُعَمِّرْكُمْ

00:01:11 --> 00:01:14

مَا يَتَذَكَّرُ فِيهِ مَنْ تَذَكَّرُ Didn't we give

00:01:14 --> 00:01:16

you enough time?

00:01:16 --> 00:01:18

عَمَّرَ We gave you a life to live.

00:01:18 --> 00:01:20

تَعْمِير is to live a life.

00:01:20 --> 00:01:24

أَوَلَمْ نُعَمِّرْكُمْ Didn't we give you enough time?

00:01:24 --> 00:01:27

مَا يَتَذَكَّرُ فِيهِ مَنْ تَذَكَّرَ Whoever wanted to

00:01:27 --> 00:01:30

benefit and take advantage of that time could

00:01:30 --> 00:01:31

have done so.

00:01:31 --> 00:01:33

And we know on the day of judgment,

00:01:33 --> 00:01:35

when Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala will ask

00:01:35 --> 00:01:37

the people who don't have anything to show,

00:01:38 --> 00:01:39

how long did you stay?

00:01:39 --> 00:01:41

كَمْ لَبِثْتُمْ How long did you stay?

00:01:41 --> 00:01:44

And they will say that, لَبِثْنَا سَاعَةً We

00:01:44 --> 00:01:46

stayed only an hour on earth.

00:01:46 --> 00:01:48

We didn't have that much time.

00:01:48 --> 00:01:49

In another verse in the Quran, when Allah

00:01:49 --> 00:01:52

says that, قَالَ كَمْ لَبِثْتُمْ فِي الْعَدَدِ السِّنِينَ

00:01:52 --> 00:01:54

Tell me how many years did you have

00:01:54 --> 00:01:55

on this earth?

00:01:55 --> 00:01:58

The people on the day of judgment, they

00:01:58 --> 00:02:00

will swear to Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala,

00:02:00 --> 00:02:05

قَالُوا لَبِثْنَا يَوْمًا أَوْ بَعْضَ يَوْمٍ فَسْأَلِ الْعَادِينَ

00:02:05 --> 00:02:08

You only gave us one day, O Allah.

00:02:08 --> 00:02:11

In their memories, in their time frame, that

00:02:11 --> 00:02:13

they have lived their whole life in this

00:02:13 --> 00:02:15

earth, and they have nothing to show, they

00:02:15 --> 00:02:17

will say, O Allah, you gave us one

00:02:17 --> 00:02:20

day or even half of a day.

00:02:20 --> 00:02:23

And they are so confident, they will say

00:02:23 --> 00:02:26

to Allah, O Allah, go ask the angels

00:02:26 --> 00:02:27

that kept their hisab.

00:02:27 --> 00:02:29

Literally, they're majnoon, they've gone crazy on the

00:02:29 --> 00:02:29

day of judgment.

00:02:30 --> 00:02:31

They are so certain.

00:02:31 --> 00:02:32

Why are they certain?

00:02:33 --> 00:02:35

Because they don't have anything to show for

00:02:35 --> 00:02:37

all of those years they've been here on

00:02:37 --> 00:02:37

earth.

00:02:38 --> 00:02:39

They don't have anything to show.

00:02:39 --> 00:02:42

And they are so certain, how could we

00:02:42 --> 00:02:45

have lived 5, 10, 20, 50, 70 years

00:02:45 --> 00:02:46

and have nothing to show.

00:02:47 --> 00:02:48

And so they go a little bit mad

00:02:48 --> 00:02:49

and they will say on the day of

00:02:49 --> 00:02:52

judgment, Ya Allah, we promise you, you only

00:02:52 --> 00:02:54

gave us one day, you only gave us

00:02:54 --> 00:02:54

one day.

00:02:55 --> 00:02:56

In fact, you gave us only a few

00:02:56 --> 00:02:59

hours, go check with the record keepers.

00:02:59 --> 00:03:01

Literally it's in the Qur'an, فَاسْأَلِ الْعَادِّينَ

00:03:01 --> 00:03:03

And Allah will respond back to them.

00:03:04 --> 00:03:06

قَالَ إِن لَبِثْتُمْ إِلَّا قَلِيلًا It is very

00:03:06 --> 00:03:08

true, you lived only a short period of

00:03:08 --> 00:03:10

time, you didn't think about this.

00:03:10 --> 00:03:12

If you only had, تَتَفَكُّرْ وَتَدَبُّرْ you would

00:03:12 --> 00:03:14

have taken advantage of it.

00:03:14 --> 00:03:16

And so the reality, O brothers and sisters,

00:03:16 --> 00:03:18

and at the beginning of every time frame,

00:03:18 --> 00:03:20

we should remind ourselves of this.

00:03:20 --> 00:03:22

Time flies in the twinkling of an eye,

00:03:22 --> 00:03:24

and we all know this, and we all

00:03:24 --> 00:03:25

experience this.

00:03:25 --> 00:03:27

Go back to your memories when you were

00:03:27 --> 00:03:28

a teenager, when you were in your 20s,

00:03:28 --> 00:03:30

when you were in your 30s, go back

00:03:30 --> 00:03:32

to last year, go back to COVID.

00:03:32 --> 00:03:34

It seems so long ago and yet it

00:03:34 --> 00:03:36

was yesterday, it was two, three years ago.

00:03:36 --> 00:03:38

This is the reality of how swiftly time

00:03:38 --> 00:03:39

flies.

00:03:39 --> 00:03:41

And so today, I wanted to give a

00:03:41 --> 00:03:45

bit of a reminder about how to benefit

00:03:45 --> 00:03:47

and maximize from our time in light of

00:03:47 --> 00:03:50

the seerah of the Prophet salallahu alayhi wasalam.

00:03:50 --> 00:03:53

Because our Prophet salallahu alayhi wasalam, he told

00:03:53 --> 00:03:55

us one of the signs of the Day

00:03:55 --> 00:03:56

of Judgment, hadith Sahih Bukhari.

00:03:56 --> 00:03:58

One of the signs of the Day of

00:03:58 --> 00:04:02

Judgment, وَأَن يَتَقَارَبَ الزَّمَانِ Time will become shorter.

00:04:03 --> 00:04:04

Time will become taqarub.

00:04:04 --> 00:04:06

What does it mean taqarub al-zaman?

00:04:06 --> 00:04:09

One of the interpretations, Imam Nawawi and others

00:04:09 --> 00:04:10

mentioned this.

00:04:10 --> 00:04:15

One of the interpretations is that time will

00:04:15 --> 00:04:17

not be as beneficial for later people as

00:04:17 --> 00:04:19

it was for earlier people.

00:04:19 --> 00:04:22

Time will not be as beneficial.

00:04:22 --> 00:04:24

Time will, we'll say in English, fly faster.

00:04:25 --> 00:04:28

Time will go faster for later people than

00:04:28 --> 00:04:30

it was for earlier people.

00:04:30 --> 00:04:32

Or we can also say, there will be

00:04:32 --> 00:04:33

less barakah in time.

00:04:34 --> 00:04:35

There will be less barakah.

00:04:35 --> 00:04:38

And the concept of barakah is something I've

00:04:38 --> 00:04:39

spoken about, we should all be aware of.

00:04:40 --> 00:04:43

Barakah means the quantity is the same, but

00:04:43 --> 00:04:44

the quality is more.

00:04:44 --> 00:04:47

Because we all have the same day.

00:04:47 --> 00:04:49

The one who's the most productive and the

00:04:49 --> 00:04:51

one who's the least productive.

00:04:51 --> 00:04:52

The day that they have on earth is

00:04:52 --> 00:04:53

exactly the same.

00:04:54 --> 00:04:56

Quantity wise is exactly the same.

00:04:56 --> 00:04:58

The one who lives 50 years, 60 years

00:04:58 --> 00:05:00

is exactly the same as everybody else who

00:05:00 --> 00:05:02

lives 50 years or 60 years.

00:05:02 --> 00:05:05

But then, subhanAllah, there are those people who

00:05:05 --> 00:05:07

in those 50 years, they accomplish what we

00:05:07 --> 00:05:09

cannot accomplish in hundreds of years.

00:05:10 --> 00:05:13

Imam Nawawi passed away in his 40s.

00:05:13 --> 00:05:15

And yet his books have filled the world.

00:05:15 --> 00:05:18

Imam Al-Bukhari died in his early 60s.

00:05:19 --> 00:05:21

And yet you cannot give a khutbah or

00:05:21 --> 00:05:23

a dars or a khatira except that the

00:05:23 --> 00:05:25

stuff that he has done will be referenced

00:05:25 --> 00:05:26

one lifetime.

00:05:26 --> 00:05:28

And yet it impacted a globe.

00:05:28 --> 00:05:31

Every great scholar of Islam, every single mover

00:05:31 --> 00:05:35

and shaker, every single intellectual, every single person

00:05:35 --> 00:05:38

who benefited mankind, they live the same time

00:05:38 --> 00:05:40

frame, 10 years, five years.

00:05:40 --> 00:05:43

No major person lived 150 years, you know,

00:05:43 --> 00:05:44

in our recent memory.

00:05:44 --> 00:05:44

Nobody did this.

00:05:44 --> 00:05:49

But times have different barakah, times have different

00:05:49 --> 00:05:49

utility.

00:05:50 --> 00:05:52

So in today's brief khatira, I wanted to

00:05:52 --> 00:05:55

go over how many, 10, 12 points from

00:05:55 --> 00:05:56

the seerah, from the life of the Prophet

00:05:56 --> 00:06:01

ﷺ, how to maximize not the quantity of

00:06:01 --> 00:06:04

time, but the barakah, the quality of time.

00:06:04 --> 00:06:06

Our Prophet ﷺ is another example.

00:06:06 --> 00:06:09

SubhanAllah, in 23 years, he was only 23

00:06:09 --> 00:06:09

years preaching.

00:06:10 --> 00:06:15

23 years, in 23 years, he ﷺ shaped

00:06:15 --> 00:06:16

the world.

00:06:16 --> 00:06:19

He changed the course of history like nobody

00:06:19 --> 00:06:21

else has done in entire lifetimes.

00:06:21 --> 00:06:25

In two decades, 20 years, what accomplishments he

00:06:25 --> 00:06:25

made.

00:06:26 --> 00:06:29

SubhanAllah, without a doubt, this demonstrates the barakah.

00:06:29 --> 00:06:31

The most mubarak life, of course, is his

00:06:31 --> 00:06:31

life.

00:06:31 --> 00:06:33

So let us look at his life and

00:06:33 --> 00:06:36

let us extract some of the benefits that

00:06:36 --> 00:06:37

we can all apply.

00:06:37 --> 00:06:39

First and foremost, in no particular order, I

00:06:39 --> 00:06:41

was just thinking about various things from his

00:06:41 --> 00:06:41

life cycle.

00:06:41 --> 00:06:45

Sallallahu alayhi wasalam, he always had a fairly

00:06:45 --> 00:06:48

regular routine when he was not traveling.

00:06:49 --> 00:06:51

It was not everyday different schedule.

00:06:51 --> 00:06:54

No, he had a fairly regular routine.

00:06:54 --> 00:06:56

And what happens when you have a regular

00:06:56 --> 00:06:58

routine is your productivity increases.

00:06:59 --> 00:07:01

He would wake up roughly the same time.

00:07:01 --> 00:07:02

He would pray his tahajjud.

00:07:02 --> 00:07:04

After fajr, he would do his adhkar.

00:07:04 --> 00:07:06

Then he would turn around and speak to

00:07:06 --> 00:07:08

the sahabah for half an hour, 45 minutes

00:07:08 --> 00:07:09

until the sun went up.

00:07:09 --> 00:07:11

And then there might be delegations that came

00:07:11 --> 00:07:11

in.

00:07:11 --> 00:07:13

And then he would have a qaylula, which

00:07:13 --> 00:07:15

is an afternoon sleep before salatul dhuhr.

00:07:15 --> 00:07:17

And then between dhuhr and asr, other issues

00:07:17 --> 00:07:19

of the state and affair.

00:07:19 --> 00:07:22

And then after asr, he always spent at

00:07:22 --> 00:07:23

least an hour with the family.

00:07:23 --> 00:07:26

He had so many of his wives, he

00:07:26 --> 00:07:28

would visit every one of them, make sure

00:07:28 --> 00:07:29

that they're taken care of.

00:07:29 --> 00:07:31

And then after maghrib, come and sit between

00:07:31 --> 00:07:33

maghrib and isha and the masjid, any other

00:07:33 --> 00:07:34

affairs of the community.

00:07:34 --> 00:07:36

And then after isha, private time with the

00:07:36 --> 00:07:37

wife that he was going to sleep with.

00:07:38 --> 00:07:39

And then began routine again.

00:07:39 --> 00:07:42

A fairly straightforward schedule.

00:07:42 --> 00:07:44

And when you have a schedule, when you

00:07:44 --> 00:07:46

have a routine, then your productivity increases.

00:07:47 --> 00:07:49

If every day is a different schedule, if

00:07:49 --> 00:07:51

every day is an erratic thing, you don't

00:07:51 --> 00:07:52

know what you're going to do.

00:07:52 --> 00:07:54

Your productivity will go down.

00:07:54 --> 00:07:55

Time management.

00:07:55 --> 00:07:58

And that's why in our entire shari'ah,

00:07:58 --> 00:08:01

the rituals are actually embedded with time management.

00:08:01 --> 00:08:04

We have five daily salawat to always keep

00:08:04 --> 00:08:05

us in check.

00:08:05 --> 00:08:08

We have the monthly, we have the yearly

00:08:08 --> 00:08:09

Ramadan to keep us in check.

00:08:09 --> 00:08:10

The yearly zakah.

00:08:11 --> 00:08:14

Our whole rituals are also time management because

00:08:14 --> 00:08:16

Allah wants us to be productive.

00:08:16 --> 00:08:18

And by putting these reminders, as Allah says

00:08:18 --> 00:08:21

in the Qur'an, إِنَّ الصَّلَاةَ كَانَتْ عَلَى

00:08:21 --> 00:08:25

الْمُؤْمِنِينَ كِتَابًا مَوْقُوتًا Salah is at mawqoot, waqt.

00:08:25 --> 00:08:27

Salah has punctuality.

00:08:27 --> 00:08:29

There's a reason for this because when your

00:08:29 --> 00:08:33

entire schedule is set, automatically the productivity increases.

00:08:34 --> 00:08:37

So point number one, as regular routine as

00:08:37 --> 00:08:37

you can.

00:08:37 --> 00:08:39

Point number two, from the sunnah we learn,

00:08:39 --> 00:08:40

from the seerah we learn.

00:08:41 --> 00:08:46

The Prophet ﷺ never slept too late in

00:08:46 --> 00:08:46

the daytime.

00:08:46 --> 00:08:49

No, he woke up early and he stayed

00:08:49 --> 00:08:50

awake early.

00:08:50 --> 00:08:52

Yes, he would have an afternoon nap.

00:08:52 --> 00:08:54

But like most of us, we wake up

00:08:54 --> 00:08:56

at what, 9, 10, 11 o'clock in

00:08:56 --> 00:08:56

the weekends.

00:08:56 --> 00:08:59

No, every single day he would wake up

00:08:59 --> 00:09:02

early and he would do the most necessary

00:09:02 --> 00:09:04

stuff right after the adhkar of fajr.

00:09:05 --> 00:09:06

Like the biggest issues that needed to be

00:09:06 --> 00:09:09

done as Sahih Bukhari mentions that after salatul

00:09:09 --> 00:09:12

fajr, when he finishes adhkar, he would sit

00:09:12 --> 00:09:14

down and speak to the sahaba, get the

00:09:14 --> 00:09:16

updates, what happens, what we call business hours,

00:09:16 --> 00:09:16

office hours.

00:09:17 --> 00:09:19

This would be right after salatul fajr, he

00:09:19 --> 00:09:20

would do this.

00:09:20 --> 00:09:23

And he said in the authentic hadith, بُورِكَ

00:09:23 --> 00:09:26

لِأُمَّتِي فِي بُكُورِهَا Allah has blessed the time

00:09:26 --> 00:09:29

for my ummah in the early mornings of

00:09:29 --> 00:09:29

the hour.

00:09:29 --> 00:09:31

And so he never overslept.

00:09:31 --> 00:09:33

He would always begin early day.

00:09:34 --> 00:09:36

In fact, way before us, he would begin

00:09:36 --> 00:09:37

tahajjud, way before us.

00:09:37 --> 00:09:40

He would begin 3 AM, 4 AM is

00:09:40 --> 00:09:41

when he would begin his routine.

00:09:41 --> 00:09:43

Even if we cannot begin then, at least

00:09:43 --> 00:09:45

at fajr time, we would begin the day

00:09:45 --> 00:09:49

and make the most important aspects the earliest

00:09:49 --> 00:09:51

aspects to do as he himself would do.

00:09:51 --> 00:09:54

And he told us literally, Allah has blessed

00:09:54 --> 00:09:57

my ummah in the early morning hours.

00:09:57 --> 00:09:58

This is an authentic hadith.

00:09:58 --> 00:10:03

بُورِكَ لِأُمَّتِي فِي بُكُورِهَا بُورِكَ بَرَكَ فِي بُكُورِهَا

00:10:03 --> 00:10:04

in the early morning.

00:10:04 --> 00:10:07

Allah's barakah comes in the early morning.

00:10:08 --> 00:10:10

And so try your best to not sleep

00:10:10 --> 00:10:12

after fajr and to do what needs to

00:10:12 --> 00:10:14

be done, your biggest tasks, your most important

00:10:14 --> 00:10:17

tasks, do them right after surat al-fajr

00:10:17 --> 00:10:19

as our Prophet ﷺ would do.

00:10:20 --> 00:10:21

Also of the things that we learn from

00:10:21 --> 00:10:26

this seerah is that the Prophet ﷺ constantly

00:10:26 --> 00:10:29

taught us what is called muhasabah, i.e.

00:10:29 --> 00:10:32

you don't need a boss when you are

00:10:32 --> 00:10:34

reminding yourself of Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala.

00:10:34 --> 00:10:37

You don't need another person to keep you

00:10:37 --> 00:10:40

in check when your conscience is keeping Allah

00:10:40 --> 00:10:41

Azawajal in mind.

00:10:41 --> 00:10:42

So this is called muhasabah.

00:10:43 --> 00:10:44

How is muhasabah done?

00:10:44 --> 00:10:47

Muhasabah is done by a strong ta'alluq

00:10:47 --> 00:10:49

and relationship with Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala.

00:10:49 --> 00:10:52

By reminding ourselves that we have to answer

00:10:52 --> 00:10:54

to Allah for what we've done.

00:10:54 --> 00:10:55

By always having the...

00:10:55 --> 00:10:58

For example, all of the ayat and hadith

00:10:58 --> 00:10:58

about time.

00:10:59 --> 00:11:01

For example, on the day of judgment, we

00:11:01 --> 00:11:03

all know the five questions the Prophet ﷺ

00:11:03 --> 00:11:05

said, the feet of the son of Adam

00:11:05 --> 00:11:08

will not move until Allah asked him five

00:11:08 --> 00:11:09

questions.

00:11:09 --> 00:11:11

Two of those questions deal with time.

00:11:11 --> 00:11:13

Number one, what did you do with your

00:11:13 --> 00:11:14

youth?

00:11:14 --> 00:11:16

And number two, what did you accomplish in

00:11:16 --> 00:11:17

your life?

00:11:17 --> 00:11:20

Two of the five questions, that's like 30%.

00:11:20 --> 00:11:24

Two of the five questions deal with time.

00:11:24 --> 00:11:26

Your youth which is the most vital, which

00:11:26 --> 00:11:28

is when you have the most energy.

00:11:28 --> 00:11:30

What did you do with your youth?

00:11:30 --> 00:11:32

And then your whole life that time frame

00:11:32 --> 00:11:34

that I give you, what have you accomplished

00:11:34 --> 00:11:35

with your life?

00:11:35 --> 00:11:37

When we know that two of the five

00:11:37 --> 00:11:39

questions are gonna deal with time.

00:11:39 --> 00:11:41

Look at the Qur'an, how many verses

00:11:41 --> 00:11:42

about time.

00:11:42 --> 00:11:45

وَالْفَجْرِ وَالْعَصْرِ وَالضُّحَىٰ Allah is giving qasam by

00:11:45 --> 00:11:46

the time.

00:11:46 --> 00:11:48

I just recited in the Qur'an as

00:11:48 --> 00:11:50

well, didn't we give you enough time?

00:11:50 --> 00:11:52

So when you think of all of the

00:11:52 --> 00:11:55

times, Allah and His messenger remind us of

00:11:55 --> 00:11:56

time.

00:11:56 --> 00:11:56

Why?

00:11:56 --> 00:11:58

Because this is muhasaba.

00:11:58 --> 00:12:00

You have to be monitoring the time that

00:12:00 --> 00:12:01

you have.

00:12:01 --> 00:12:04

Another thing we learn from the seerah of

00:12:04 --> 00:12:07

the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wasallam is that when

00:12:07 --> 00:12:09

you look at his lifestyle, another amazing thing

00:12:09 --> 00:12:10

we learn.

00:12:10 --> 00:12:13

And that is that there's a healthy balance

00:12:13 --> 00:12:16

of taking care of multiple aspects.

00:12:16 --> 00:12:18

It's not just one chore and that's it.

00:12:18 --> 00:12:21

You will never be productive if you immerse

00:12:21 --> 00:12:22

yourself in only one thing.

00:12:22 --> 00:12:24

No, look at the seerah.

00:12:24 --> 00:12:27

The Prophet sallallahu alayhi wasallam took care of

00:12:27 --> 00:12:28

the affairs of the state.

00:12:28 --> 00:12:30

He took care of his own personal ibadah

00:12:30 --> 00:12:31

and dhikr.

00:12:31 --> 00:12:33

He took care of his society and people.

00:12:33 --> 00:12:36

He took care of his family and everyone

00:12:36 --> 00:12:37

is being given a time.

00:12:37 --> 00:12:39

We are human beings.

00:12:39 --> 00:12:41

We cannot do one task, one chore for

00:12:41 --> 00:12:42

24 hours a day.

00:12:42 --> 00:12:44

And that is not Islamic.

00:12:44 --> 00:12:45

And that is not something that will be

00:12:45 --> 00:12:46

productive.

00:12:46 --> 00:12:49

No, we must give every person the right

00:12:49 --> 00:12:50

that is due to them.

00:12:50 --> 00:12:52

We must give back to the community.

00:12:52 --> 00:12:53

We must give to our families.

00:12:54 --> 00:12:57

Too all too often, we people sacrifice one

00:12:57 --> 00:12:58

right for another and that's not healthy.

00:12:59 --> 00:13:01

They'll sacrifice family for career or career for

00:13:01 --> 00:13:02

family.

00:13:02 --> 00:13:03

That's not healthy.

00:13:03 --> 00:13:06

The Prophet sallallahu alayhi wasallam took care of

00:13:06 --> 00:13:07

every aspect.

00:13:07 --> 00:13:09

And if you look at his schedule sallallahu

00:13:09 --> 00:13:12

alayhi wasallam, you literally have time frames dedicated

00:13:12 --> 00:13:14

for all of these different things.

00:13:14 --> 00:13:16

And when you do so, you find yourself

00:13:16 --> 00:13:19

productive and sane, mentally balanced.

00:13:19 --> 00:13:22

If you don't have these different slots to

00:13:22 --> 00:13:25

spread out, then you might actually not be

00:13:25 --> 00:13:26

mentally balanced.

00:13:26 --> 00:13:28

If you don't have work and you only

00:13:28 --> 00:13:30

have free time, if you don't have family

00:13:30 --> 00:13:32

and you only have work, if you don't

00:13:32 --> 00:13:35

have this community balance, you might possibly become

00:13:35 --> 00:13:36

slightly not normal.

00:13:36 --> 00:13:37

That's not healthy.

00:13:37 --> 00:13:40

The shari'ah, the Qur'an, the seerah,

00:13:40 --> 00:13:42

all of this teaches us to have a

00:13:42 --> 00:13:43

healthy balance.

00:13:43 --> 00:13:45

And so, balance out.

00:13:45 --> 00:13:47

Every one of you, and I speak especially

00:13:47 --> 00:13:49

to those that are starting their careers, that

00:13:49 --> 00:13:52

yes, career is important, but spend some time

00:13:52 --> 00:13:53

with family as well.

00:13:53 --> 00:13:54

Family is also important.

00:13:54 --> 00:13:56

Don't sacrifice one for the other.

00:13:56 --> 00:13:58

And of course, each one of us has

00:13:58 --> 00:13:59

to decide where that line is.

00:13:59 --> 00:14:01

But the point is, each one should be

00:14:01 --> 00:14:04

given an emphasis like our Prophet ﷺ did.

00:14:04 --> 00:14:06

Also, by the way, when you give each

00:14:06 --> 00:14:09

one emphasis, there is one aspect definitely from

00:14:09 --> 00:14:12

the seerah we learn, private time, alone time.

00:14:12 --> 00:14:14

This is something a lot of times we

00:14:14 --> 00:14:14

don't do.

00:14:15 --> 00:14:17

It's very important that every one of us

00:14:17 --> 00:14:20

have time, we cut off from the dunya.

00:14:20 --> 00:14:22

We just sit and do dhikr or spend

00:14:22 --> 00:14:25

time in meditation and in ta'abud and

00:14:25 --> 00:14:27

in zuhd of Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala,

00:14:27 --> 00:14:30

the tahajjud, qiraatul Qur'an, that alone time,

00:14:31 --> 00:14:34

you cut yourself off from society every single

00:14:34 --> 00:14:36

day for at least three hours.

00:14:36 --> 00:14:38

The Prophet ﷺ would have that alone time

00:14:38 --> 00:14:40

where he's cut off from everybody in his

00:14:40 --> 00:14:43

salatul tahajjud, minimum three hours he would do.

00:14:43 --> 00:14:45

I know that's a lot, even 20 minutes

00:14:45 --> 00:14:47

for us, five minutes for us, half an

00:14:47 --> 00:14:50

hour, we have to have that alone time

00:14:50 --> 00:14:52

where we have nothing to do other than

00:14:52 --> 00:14:54

our own thoughts, our own contemplation and our

00:14:54 --> 00:14:56

own dhikr of Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala.

00:14:56 --> 00:14:58

Another thing we learned from the seer of

00:14:58 --> 00:15:03

the Prophet ﷺ, he surrounded himself with people

00:15:03 --> 00:15:06

who were winners, who were motivational.

00:15:06 --> 00:15:09

He surrounded himself with those who accomplished things.

00:15:09 --> 00:15:12

If you surround yourself with people who think

00:15:12 --> 00:15:14

alike and who are going to accomplish things,

00:15:14 --> 00:15:15

it will rub off on you.

00:15:16 --> 00:15:17

And if you surround yourself with people that

00:15:17 --> 00:15:20

are losers, that have no ambition, what's gonna

00:15:20 --> 00:15:20

happen?

00:15:21 --> 00:15:23

Look at the sahaba, look at how much

00:15:23 --> 00:15:25

they accomplished in each of their lifetimes and

00:15:25 --> 00:15:27

look at the diversity of their talents.

00:15:28 --> 00:15:29

And so look at your friends, look at

00:15:29 --> 00:15:31

those whom you spend time with and make

00:15:31 --> 00:15:33

sure they are movers and shakers.

00:15:34 --> 00:15:36

Make sure there are people who will benefit

00:15:36 --> 00:15:36

you.

00:15:36 --> 00:15:39

Like the Prophet ﷺ sahaba, every one of

00:15:39 --> 00:15:41

them is himself a living legend.

00:15:42 --> 00:15:45

And that demonstrates the synergy that when you're

00:15:45 --> 00:15:47

surrounded by people who are accomplishing a lot,

00:15:47 --> 00:15:49

you're also going to accomplish a lot.

00:15:49 --> 00:15:51

Another thing we learned from the seer of

00:15:51 --> 00:15:55

the Prophet ﷺ is the dangers of procrastination.

00:15:56 --> 00:15:57

Of course in his own life, he never

00:15:57 --> 00:15:58

procrastinated.

00:15:58 --> 00:15:59

But from the seerah we learned, from the

00:15:59 --> 00:16:01

Qur'an we learned, and from the seerah

00:16:01 --> 00:16:03

we learned what happens when you procrastinate.

00:16:03 --> 00:16:05

Look at the story of Ka'b ibn

00:16:05 --> 00:16:08

Malik when he procrastinated going on the Ghazwat

00:16:08 --> 00:16:09

al-Tabuk, right?

00:16:09 --> 00:16:10

He woke up, he goes, ah, there's still

00:16:10 --> 00:16:12

some time, I'll do it at dhuhr time.

00:16:12 --> 00:16:13

Dhuhr comes, he goes, ah, I'll do a

00:16:13 --> 00:16:15

qaylura, I'll catch them up after asr.

00:16:15 --> 00:16:17

He goes, ah, it's late, tomorrow I'll do

00:16:17 --> 00:16:17

it.

00:16:17 --> 00:16:19

The next day he wakes up, three days

00:16:19 --> 00:16:21

go by and that's it, what happens, happens.

00:16:21 --> 00:16:22

If you don't know the story, look it

00:16:22 --> 00:16:22

up.

00:16:22 --> 00:16:25

The famous story of Ka'b in the

00:16:25 --> 00:16:26

Ghazwat al-Tabuk, look it up inshaAllah ta

00:16:26 --> 00:16:26

'ala.

00:16:27 --> 00:16:28

But what was the problem there?

00:16:29 --> 00:16:31

Procrastination, keep on delaying.

00:16:31 --> 00:16:33

And there is a statement attributed to Ali

00:16:33 --> 00:16:34

radiallahu anhu.

00:16:34 --> 00:16:35

And some say it is a hadith, but

00:16:35 --> 00:16:37

most likely it's a statement of the sahaba

00:16:37 --> 00:16:40

in which one of the sahabi said, التسويف

00:16:40 --> 00:16:44

من الشيطان Procrastination is from the tactics of

00:16:44 --> 00:16:44

shaitan.

00:16:45 --> 00:16:47

Procrastination is from shaitan.

00:16:47 --> 00:16:49

And there is another statement of the sahaba,

00:16:49 --> 00:16:52

ibn Mas'ud said, Do not delay the

00:16:52 --> 00:16:55

task of today until tomorrow, because you don't

00:16:55 --> 00:16:56

know what will happen tomorrow.

00:16:56 --> 00:16:59

Do not delay the task of today until

00:16:59 --> 00:16:59

tomorrow.

00:17:00 --> 00:17:02

And how often brothers and sisters, and I

00:17:02 --> 00:17:03

know this myself and you know it yourself,

00:17:03 --> 00:17:05

you're like, oh, this is not something urgent,

00:17:05 --> 00:17:07

I can, let me do it till tomorrow.

00:17:07 --> 00:17:10

And then tomorrow another thing happens, whether it's

00:17:10 --> 00:17:11

a flat tire, whether it is a small

00:17:11 --> 00:17:14

inconvenience, whether it is a chore and you're

00:17:14 --> 00:17:16

like, oh my God, I had yesterday time,

00:17:16 --> 00:17:17

I could have done it, now today another

00:17:17 --> 00:17:18

thing came up.

00:17:18 --> 00:17:22

Productivity means do not delay anything that can

00:17:22 --> 00:17:24

be accomplished today for tomorrow.

00:17:24 --> 00:17:27

And the seerah of the Prophet ﷺ demonstrates

00:17:27 --> 00:17:28

this.

00:17:28 --> 00:17:31

Another aspect we learn from the seerah is

00:17:31 --> 00:17:34

positivity, even in the face of failure.

00:17:34 --> 00:17:37

Don't let a failure cause you to have

00:17:37 --> 00:17:38

a setback.

00:17:38 --> 00:17:41

Don't let a negative cause you to think

00:17:41 --> 00:17:41

negative.

00:17:42 --> 00:17:45

Don't let the problems of the dunya impede

00:17:45 --> 00:17:46

your personal progress.

00:17:46 --> 00:17:49

No matter what happens, do something.

00:17:50 --> 00:17:51

And so many incidents from the seerah.

00:17:51 --> 00:17:54

For example, the most difficult time of the

00:17:54 --> 00:17:56

seerah was the incident of Ta'if.

00:17:56 --> 00:17:59

As he himself ﷺ said, he told our

00:17:59 --> 00:18:02

mother Aisha, he said, no day was more

00:18:02 --> 00:18:04

difficult for me than the day of Ta

00:18:04 --> 00:18:04

'if.

00:18:04 --> 00:18:07

And yet still, while he is bleeding, while

00:18:07 --> 00:18:09

there's still blood on his hands and in

00:18:09 --> 00:18:14

his feet, and Addas, the Christian slave from

00:18:14 --> 00:18:17

Iraq, he comes his way and he gives

00:18:17 --> 00:18:18

da'wah to Addas.

00:18:18 --> 00:18:21

And Addas converts to Islam, subhanAllah.

00:18:21 --> 00:18:24

No matter how bad that day was, still

00:18:24 --> 00:18:26

he accomplished an amazing accomplishment.

00:18:27 --> 00:18:29

No matter how negative that day was, he

00:18:29 --> 00:18:31

didn't allow the negativity to rub off on

00:18:31 --> 00:18:31

him.

00:18:32 --> 00:18:34

He saw something positive and he contributed.

00:18:34 --> 00:18:36

And so we learn from this, no matter

00:18:36 --> 00:18:39

what the setbacks happen, it should not impact

00:18:39 --> 00:18:39

your attitude.

00:18:40 --> 00:18:42

The attitude of doing something, the attitude of

00:18:42 --> 00:18:46

moving, shaking, leaving a legacy, causing an impact,

00:18:46 --> 00:18:50

whatever happens, there's always opportunities to do something

00:18:50 --> 00:18:51

of good somewhere.

00:18:51 --> 00:18:54

So we learn from the seerah, never allow

00:18:54 --> 00:18:57

a failure to cause you to become overwhelmed

00:18:57 --> 00:19:00

with grief, with stopping your trajectory.

00:19:01 --> 00:19:02

No, continue to do.

00:19:02 --> 00:19:05

Another reality we learn from the seerah, beautiful

00:19:05 --> 00:19:08

incidents from the seerah, is that the Prophet

00:19:08 --> 00:19:11

ﷺ made sure that nothing distracted him.

00:19:11 --> 00:19:13

Again, so many evidences for this.

00:19:13 --> 00:19:15

In something even as trivial that one day

00:19:15 --> 00:19:17

he was praying salah and there was a

00:19:17 --> 00:19:19

beautiful decoration on the rug, and he started

00:19:19 --> 00:19:20

looking at that decoration.

00:19:21 --> 00:19:22

And then he said to Aisha, you know,

00:19:22 --> 00:19:25

this decoration, it caused me to not concentrate

00:19:25 --> 00:19:27

in salah, so put it in another room,

00:19:27 --> 00:19:28

I don't want it in this room here.

00:19:28 --> 00:19:32

Literally something as trivial as the carpet being

00:19:32 --> 00:19:34

too decorated for him, he didn't like it,

00:19:34 --> 00:19:37

and it affected his khushu'a maybe by

00:19:37 --> 00:19:38

1%.

00:19:38 --> 00:19:40

How is it gonna affect his khushu'a

00:19:40 --> 00:19:40

compared to us?

00:19:40 --> 00:19:42

So maybe the smallest amount it affected.

00:19:42 --> 00:19:44

And he said, you know what, I don't

00:19:44 --> 00:19:45

want it, no distraction.

00:19:45 --> 00:19:47

And he literally, you know, got rid of

00:19:47 --> 00:19:47

it.

00:19:47 --> 00:19:49

And then also one night, our mother Aisha

00:19:49 --> 00:19:51

felt sorry for him that he's sleeping on

00:19:51 --> 00:19:53

such a little thin mattress.

00:19:53 --> 00:19:54

So she gave up her side of the

00:19:54 --> 00:19:57

mattress, and she folded his multiple times and

00:19:57 --> 00:19:58

she slept on the sand.

00:19:59 --> 00:20:00

That's a sacrifice of our mother.

00:20:00 --> 00:20:01

So she gave her an extra mattress.

00:20:02 --> 00:20:04

Because of that he overslept maybe half an

00:20:04 --> 00:20:06

hour, 20 minutes, we don't know.

00:20:06 --> 00:20:07

So it cut into his tahajjud.

00:20:08 --> 00:20:10

So he said to Aisha radiallahu anha, did

00:20:10 --> 00:20:11

you do something to the bed?

00:20:11 --> 00:20:13

She said, yes, I gave you my mattress.

00:20:13 --> 00:20:15

So he said, subhanAllah, don't do that again.

00:20:15 --> 00:20:16

I woke up late for tahajjud.

00:20:17 --> 00:20:20

SubhanAllah, he literally, because of that softness, he

00:20:20 --> 00:20:22

little bit extra goes, don't do that again,

00:20:22 --> 00:20:23

keep it back.

00:20:23 --> 00:20:26

He literally got rid of anything that he

00:20:26 --> 00:20:27

felt was a distraction.

00:20:28 --> 00:20:30

Now for him, some soft bed, I mean,

00:20:30 --> 00:20:31

we cannot compare ourselves to that.

00:20:32 --> 00:20:34

But definitely I'm gonna say something, sorry guys,

00:20:34 --> 00:20:36

but may Allah forgive us all.

00:20:36 --> 00:20:38

Do I need to tell you what distractions

00:20:38 --> 00:20:38

we have?

00:20:39 --> 00:20:42

He's worried about some decoration and some soft

00:20:42 --> 00:20:42

bed.

00:20:42 --> 00:20:45

We have created the art of distractions.

00:20:46 --> 00:20:50

We have created the methodology to kill 24

00:20:50 --> 00:20:51

hours a day.

00:20:51 --> 00:20:52

May Allah forgive us, right?

00:20:52 --> 00:20:57

Social media and TikTok and Facebook and YouTube

00:20:57 --> 00:21:00

and the internet and this and that.

00:21:00 --> 00:21:01

May Allah forgive us.

00:21:01 --> 00:21:03

What is this other than distraction, right?

00:21:03 --> 00:21:05

What is this other than complete waste of

00:21:05 --> 00:21:06

time?

00:21:06 --> 00:21:08

How are you gonna accomplish something when all

00:21:08 --> 00:21:11

you're doing is just scrolling down Facebook and

00:21:11 --> 00:21:11

TikTok?

00:21:11 --> 00:21:13

How will you be a productive person when

00:21:13 --> 00:21:14

hours go by?

00:21:14 --> 00:21:17

Even the processor literally did not want any

00:21:17 --> 00:21:19

design because little bit of khushu' maybe was

00:21:19 --> 00:21:20

just slightly impacted.

00:21:21 --> 00:21:23

Demonstrates, if you wanna be productive, cut off

00:21:23 --> 00:21:27

that which will bring about that distraction.

00:21:27 --> 00:21:29

And by the way, there are techniques to

00:21:29 --> 00:21:29

do this, right?

00:21:29 --> 00:21:31

That's another topic altogether.

00:21:31 --> 00:21:32

Put limits on your social media.

00:21:33 --> 00:21:35

You can put it on your phone, 30

00:21:35 --> 00:21:37

minutes, because I understand we need to update

00:21:37 --> 00:21:37

ourselves.

00:21:37 --> 00:21:39

We need to have contact with our friends.

00:21:39 --> 00:21:40

It's not, you know, it's a part of

00:21:40 --> 00:21:42

life, but you don't need to spend five

00:21:42 --> 00:21:43

hours.

00:21:43 --> 00:21:44

You don't need to spend hours and hours

00:21:44 --> 00:21:46

watching, you know, TV and whatnot.

00:21:46 --> 00:21:48

If you wanna live a productive life, you're

00:21:48 --> 00:21:50

not gonna live a productive life if the

00:21:50 --> 00:21:52

majority of your day is spent watching, you

00:21:52 --> 00:21:55

know, rays of light reflecting on your eyes,

00:21:55 --> 00:21:57

much of which is, you know, mubahir, much

00:21:57 --> 00:21:58

of which is not even mubahir.

00:21:58 --> 00:21:59

Wallah al-musta'an.

00:21:59 --> 00:22:01

So if you wanna be productive, that's not

00:22:01 --> 00:22:01

gonna happen.

00:22:02 --> 00:22:04

We learn from the seerah, get rid of,

00:22:04 --> 00:22:04

get rid of what?

00:22:06 --> 00:22:06

Distraction.

00:22:06 --> 00:22:07

So that's what we learn from the seerah.

00:22:08 --> 00:22:10

Another thing we learn from the seerah about

00:22:10 --> 00:22:13

productivity, make dua to Allah to be productive.

00:22:13 --> 00:22:15

There are many authentic hadith of them.

00:22:15 --> 00:22:18

One of the most, you know, famous hadith

00:22:18 --> 00:22:19

of the Prophets, and he would say this

00:22:19 --> 00:22:19

regularly.

00:22:20 --> 00:22:21

It's a long hadith, the phrase we're interested

00:22:21 --> 00:22:24

in, wa a'udhu bika minal ajzi walkasal.

00:22:25 --> 00:22:28

I seek refuge in you from incapacity and

00:22:28 --> 00:22:29

from laziness.

00:22:30 --> 00:22:32

If you wanna be simple English, I seek

00:22:32 --> 00:22:34

refuge in you from not being able to

00:22:34 --> 00:22:35

do what I wanna do.

00:22:35 --> 00:22:37

And I seek refuge in you from being

00:22:37 --> 00:22:39

lazy in doing what I need to do.

00:22:40 --> 00:22:43

He's seeking refuge in Allah from the inner

00:22:43 --> 00:22:47

issues of laziness and of not having determination.

00:22:47 --> 00:22:49

You don't wanna be lazy.

00:22:49 --> 00:22:51

You don't wanna be indeterminate.

00:22:51 --> 00:22:52

You wanna be accomplished.

00:22:52 --> 00:22:54

You wanna have an agenda.

00:22:55 --> 00:22:56

You have to have in your goal.

00:22:56 --> 00:22:58

You don't wanna be aimless, wanderless.

00:22:59 --> 00:23:00

Or even if you have a goal, you

00:23:00 --> 00:23:02

don't wanna be lazy in not accomplishing that

00:23:02 --> 00:23:03

goal.

00:23:03 --> 00:23:05

So you have to have a vision and

00:23:05 --> 00:23:07

you have to have energy to put into

00:23:07 --> 00:23:07

that vision.

00:23:07 --> 00:23:09

And that's what Allah says in the Quran,

00:23:09 --> 00:23:12

فَإِذَا عَزَمْتَ فَتَوَكَّلْ عَلَى اللَّهِ Once you have

00:23:12 --> 00:23:15

determined what you wanna do, then you put

00:23:15 --> 00:23:16

your trust in Allah.

00:23:16 --> 00:23:19

That determination, that desire, I wanna do something.

00:23:20 --> 00:23:22

It's straight from the seerah, straight from the

00:23:22 --> 00:23:22

Quran.

00:23:22 --> 00:23:25

And in fact, every successful person, Muslim or

00:23:25 --> 00:23:28

kafir, doesn't matter successful here, meaning of the

00:23:28 --> 00:23:28

dunya.

00:23:28 --> 00:23:31

Every mover and shaker has a vision, a

00:23:31 --> 00:23:32

passion, a dream.

00:23:32 --> 00:23:35

You're not going to accomplish something if you

00:23:35 --> 00:23:36

don't have a vision.

00:23:36 --> 00:23:37

So this is what a process I'm saying.

00:23:37 --> 00:23:39

I seek refuge in you from being indeterminate,

00:23:40 --> 00:23:40

wandering aimlessly.

00:23:41 --> 00:23:43

And I seek refuge in you from being

00:23:43 --> 00:23:45

lazy, even if I have a dream, but

00:23:45 --> 00:23:46

I'm not gonna accomplish that dream.

00:23:47 --> 00:23:48

No, you want both.

00:23:48 --> 00:23:50

So from the seerah we learn, make sure

00:23:50 --> 00:23:51

you have a vision and make sure you

00:23:51 --> 00:23:53

have the energy to put into that vision.

00:23:54 --> 00:23:56

Of the realities of the seerah as well

00:23:56 --> 00:23:59

that we learn, is that the seerah teaches

00:23:59 --> 00:24:03

us that you constantly remind yourself of the

00:24:03 --> 00:24:05

fact that this dunya is temporary, and you

00:24:05 --> 00:24:07

remind yourself of the akhirah.

00:24:07 --> 00:24:08

What will this do?

00:24:08 --> 00:24:12

Our Prophet ﷺ said, أَكْثِرُوا مِن ذِكْرِ هَذِمِ

00:24:12 --> 00:24:16

الَّذَّاتِ Frequently think of that which will destroy

00:24:16 --> 00:24:18

all of the pleasures you are in.

00:24:18 --> 00:24:20

Frequently think of death.

00:24:20 --> 00:24:22

And he told us, go and visit the

00:24:22 --> 00:24:25

quboor because it reminds you of your final

00:24:25 --> 00:24:25

abode.

00:24:25 --> 00:24:27

And I've said this multiple times, we are

00:24:27 --> 00:24:30

told to think of death, not to live

00:24:30 --> 00:24:33

morbid lives, but to live productive lives.

00:24:34 --> 00:24:36

We are told to think of death because

00:24:36 --> 00:24:40

one of the most important factors that will

00:24:40 --> 00:24:43

make us productive is to realize none of

00:24:43 --> 00:24:45

us is gonna be here after a hundred

00:24:45 --> 00:24:45

years.

00:24:45 --> 00:24:46

Think about that.

00:24:46 --> 00:24:48

Not a single person sitting here will be

00:24:48 --> 00:24:50

here after a hundred years.

00:24:50 --> 00:24:51

That is the reality.

00:24:51 --> 00:24:53

Not a single person here will be here

00:24:53 --> 00:24:53

after a hundred years.

00:24:54 --> 00:24:54

How do we...

00:24:54 --> 00:24:56

When we know this reality, well then let's

00:24:56 --> 00:24:57

do something.

00:24:57 --> 00:24:59

We're gonna have people that are gonna remember

00:24:59 --> 00:24:59

us.

00:25:00 --> 00:25:01

Allah Azzawajal will write down what we have

00:25:01 --> 00:25:01

done.

00:25:01 --> 00:25:03

We will not be able to change what

00:25:03 --> 00:25:04

we have done.

00:25:04 --> 00:25:07

So productivity will come when you realize our

00:25:07 --> 00:25:09

time in this dunya is finite.

00:25:09 --> 00:25:13

So constantly think of the akhirah, spirituality, iman,

00:25:13 --> 00:25:14

and death.

00:25:14 --> 00:25:16

All of these factors will actually make you

00:25:16 --> 00:25:17

more productive.

00:25:17 --> 00:25:18

And then the final point again, much can

00:25:18 --> 00:25:19

be said here.

00:25:20 --> 00:25:21

But the final point inshaAllah ta'ala will

00:25:21 --> 00:25:24

do is perhaps inshaAllah ta'ala the most

00:25:24 --> 00:25:25

important one.

00:25:25 --> 00:25:30

And that is the productive person realizes that

00:25:30 --> 00:25:36

ultimate productivity and ultimate success is not measured

00:25:36 --> 00:25:38

by people in this dunya.

00:25:38 --> 00:25:41

It's not measured by accomplishments that others can

00:25:41 --> 00:25:41

see.

00:25:41 --> 00:25:44

It is not measured by a legacy that

00:25:44 --> 00:25:45

is visual.

00:25:45 --> 00:25:47

It is measured by Allah subhanahu wa ta

00:25:47 --> 00:25:47

'ala.

00:25:48 --> 00:25:50

And therefore, as long as you put in

00:25:50 --> 00:25:54

the effort, even if you fail in the

00:25:54 --> 00:25:57

eyes of men, the effort will make you

00:25:57 --> 00:26:00

a success in the scales of Allah subhanahu

00:26:00 --> 00:26:01

wa ta'ala.

00:26:01 --> 00:26:05

Once you understand there is no failure if

00:26:05 --> 00:26:07

you put in the legitimate effort.

00:26:08 --> 00:26:11

And since Allah will judge success, not men.

00:26:11 --> 00:26:13

And since Allah will reward, and you don't

00:26:13 --> 00:26:14

care about what men do.

00:26:15 --> 00:26:19

Since Allah will give the actual hisab, now

00:26:19 --> 00:26:20

you will feel liberated.

00:26:20 --> 00:26:23

I don't care if other people think I

00:26:23 --> 00:26:23

have failed.

00:26:24 --> 00:26:26

If I have put in the effort and

00:26:26 --> 00:26:29

Allah knows I've tried, then in the eyes

00:26:29 --> 00:26:31

of Allah, I have attained success.

00:26:32 --> 00:26:36

It is the single most motivational factor to

00:26:36 --> 00:26:36

achieve success.

00:26:37 --> 00:26:39

Because one of the biggest causes of failure

00:26:39 --> 00:26:42

is when you keep on trying and trying

00:26:42 --> 00:26:45

and trying, and you perceive nothing happens, you

00:26:45 --> 00:26:47

throw up, you throw in the towel, you

00:26:47 --> 00:26:48

give up.

00:26:48 --> 00:26:48

I can't do it.

00:26:48 --> 00:26:49

It's not working.

00:26:49 --> 00:26:50

Nothing is happening.

00:26:50 --> 00:26:52

You want to solve Palestine problem.

00:26:52 --> 00:26:54

Thing after thing after thing, nothing's working.

00:26:54 --> 00:26:56

You want to bring about the, you know,

00:26:56 --> 00:26:57

the Izzah of the Ummah.

00:26:57 --> 00:26:59

Your decades go by, and then you think

00:26:59 --> 00:27:00

nothing is happening.

00:27:00 --> 00:27:02

But then if you start thinking, hold on

00:27:02 --> 00:27:05

a sec, Allah Azza wa Jal will ask,

00:27:05 --> 00:27:06

what did I do?

00:27:06 --> 00:27:08

And as long as I tried, and as

00:27:08 --> 00:27:10

long as I attempted, and as long as

00:27:10 --> 00:27:12

I put in the effort, I have succeeded.

00:27:13 --> 00:27:15

All of a sudden you feel liberated because

00:27:15 --> 00:27:18

success is not judged by YouTube likes.

00:27:19 --> 00:27:21

Success is not judged by what other people

00:27:21 --> 00:27:22

think and do.

00:27:22 --> 00:27:25

Success is not judged by lobbying power, anything

00:27:25 --> 00:27:25

of this nature.

00:27:26 --> 00:27:29

Ultimate success is judged by Allah Subh'anaHu

00:27:29 --> 00:27:29

Wa Ta-A'la.

00:27:29 --> 00:27:31

And He will judge you based upon what?

00:27:32 --> 00:27:35

Allah says in the Quran, وَأَلَّيْسَ لِلْإِنسَانِ إِلَّا

00:27:35 --> 00:27:41

مَا سَعَىٰ وَأَنَّ سَعْيَهُ سَوْفَ يُرَىٰ Man shall

00:27:41 --> 00:27:44

only be given the effort he put in.

00:27:44 --> 00:27:47

And his efforts is what will be seen

00:27:47 --> 00:27:48

on the day of judgment.

00:27:48 --> 00:27:52

Notice, وَأَنَّ سَعْيَهُ سَوْفَ يُرَىٰ His سَعِي, سَعِي,

00:27:53 --> 00:27:54

you think it means Safa and Marwa, no.

00:27:55 --> 00:27:56

سَعِي actually means effort.

00:27:56 --> 00:27:58

And Safa and Marwa is called سَعِي because

00:27:58 --> 00:28:00

it's an effort to walk that long.

00:28:00 --> 00:28:02

سَعِي actually means putting in an effort.

00:28:03 --> 00:28:04

And Allah Subh'anaHu Wa Ta-A'la

00:28:04 --> 00:28:09

says, وَأَلَّيْسَ لِلْإِنسَانِ إِلَّا مَا سَعَىٰ Man shall

00:28:09 --> 00:28:11

only get the effort.

00:28:11 --> 00:28:12

Notice, Allah didn't say result.

00:28:13 --> 00:28:15

Allah did not say result.

00:28:15 --> 00:28:17

Allah said the effort.

00:28:17 --> 00:28:19

And that's literally the entire message of the

00:28:19 --> 00:28:19

Quran.

00:28:20 --> 00:28:25

وَمَنْ أَرَادَ الْآخِرَةَ وَسَعَىٰ لَهَا سَعْيَهَا وَهُوَ مُؤْمِنٌ

00:28:25 --> 00:28:28

Whoever desires the akhirah and puts in the

00:28:28 --> 00:28:30

effort for the akhirah while he believes.

00:28:31 --> 00:28:35

فَأُولَيْكَ كَانَ سَعْيُهُمْ مَشْكُورًا Their efforts will be

00:28:35 --> 00:28:36

rewarded.

00:28:36 --> 00:28:40

Notice, not their success, not their failure, not

00:28:40 --> 00:28:42

what other people think and do, the effort

00:28:42 --> 00:28:43

you put in.

00:28:43 --> 00:28:46

So realize, you want to be productive, all

00:28:46 --> 00:28:47

you have to do is put in the

00:28:47 --> 00:28:48

effort.

00:28:48 --> 00:28:50

And whether people think you're productive or not,

00:28:50 --> 00:28:53

how many were the scholars, they died in

00:28:53 --> 00:28:54

jail, they didn't realize they will be productive

00:28:55 --> 00:28:56

after they died.

00:28:56 --> 00:28:59

Their books will be popular after they've left

00:28:59 --> 00:28:59

this earth.

00:28:59 --> 00:29:01

How many people, they didn't realize the impact

00:29:01 --> 00:29:03

they had until the akhirah goes on.

00:29:04 --> 00:29:05

How many of the shuhada of the early

00:29:05 --> 00:29:07

Muslims in Mecca, they did not see the

00:29:07 --> 00:29:08

conquest of Mecca.

00:29:08 --> 00:29:09

Are they failures?

00:29:09 --> 00:29:11

Hasha wa kalla, no.

00:29:11 --> 00:29:12

They have achieved success.

00:29:12 --> 00:29:12

Why?

00:29:13 --> 00:29:15

Because they put in the effort.

00:29:15 --> 00:29:19

So once you realize ultimate productivity only requires

00:29:19 --> 00:29:20

effort.

00:29:20 --> 00:29:23

And if you put in the effort correctly,

00:29:23 --> 00:29:25

sincerely for the sake of Allah, you have

00:29:25 --> 00:29:27

achieved productivity and success.

00:29:28 --> 00:29:31

The only failure, if you don't put in

00:29:31 --> 00:29:31

the effort.

00:29:31 --> 00:29:34

If you literally give up and you do

00:29:34 --> 00:29:35

nothing, then you have failed.

00:29:36 --> 00:29:37

There is no failure.

00:29:38 --> 00:29:41

You can never fail if you try, if

00:29:41 --> 00:29:43

you do something, if you strive to bring

00:29:43 --> 00:29:45

about a change, a betterment in yourself, in

00:29:45 --> 00:29:47

your family, in your friends, you will never

00:29:47 --> 00:29:47

fail.

00:29:48 --> 00:29:50

Allah will reward you and it is a

00:29:50 --> 00:29:51

resounding success.

00:29:51 --> 00:29:54

Once you understand, success is not in my

00:29:54 --> 00:29:56

hands, in your hands, in the public's hands.

00:29:56 --> 00:29:58

Success is in Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala.

00:29:58 --> 00:30:00

And all I have to do is show

00:30:00 --> 00:30:01

Allah, I tried.

00:30:01 --> 00:30:04

All of a sudden, every day will be

00:30:04 --> 00:30:04

a productive day.

00:30:05 --> 00:30:07

Doesn't matter how bad the situation is.

00:30:07 --> 00:30:09

Look at our brothers and sisters in Palestine.

00:30:09 --> 00:30:12

That's what you call success, resolve, determination.

00:30:13 --> 00:30:14

The world has abandoned them.

00:30:14 --> 00:30:16

All of the Muslim nations have turned their

00:30:16 --> 00:30:16

back on them.

00:30:17 --> 00:30:18

They don't seem to have any hope.

00:30:18 --> 00:30:21

And yet still, they are shining role models

00:30:21 --> 00:30:21

and examples.

00:30:22 --> 00:30:22

Why?

00:30:22 --> 00:30:24

Because they realize they don't care about the

00:30:24 --> 00:30:24

dunya.

00:30:24 --> 00:30:26

They don't care about what other people do.

00:30:26 --> 00:30:28

They have to put in the effort and

00:30:28 --> 00:30:28

do.

00:30:29 --> 00:30:30

And when they do so, Allah will write

00:30:30 --> 00:30:31

success for them.

00:30:32 --> 00:30:33

So brothers and sisters, these are some of

00:30:33 --> 00:30:36

the aspects inshaAllah ta'ala that we want

00:30:36 --> 00:30:39

to maintain in order to bring about productivity

00:30:39 --> 00:30:40

and barakah in our lives.

00:30:40 --> 00:30:42

May Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala bless all

00:30:42 --> 00:30:45

of us to live fruitful and productive and

00:30:45 --> 00:30:45

useful lives.

00:30:46 --> 00:30:47

And a final announcement.

00:30:47 --> 00:30:48

Tomorrow as you know, there's going to be

00:30:48 --> 00:30:50

a winter storm coming.

00:30:51 --> 00:30:53

And Friday will probably have snow on the

00:30:53 --> 00:30:53

road.

00:30:54 --> 00:30:55

So it is up to you.

00:30:56 --> 00:30:56

You judge.

00:30:57 --> 00:30:58

If you think it is dangerous to come

00:30:58 --> 00:31:00

to the masjid, if you think that the

00:31:00 --> 00:31:02

roads are not safe for you, you don't

00:31:02 --> 00:31:04

have to have a life and death situation.

00:31:04 --> 00:31:05

It's not to that level.

00:31:05 --> 00:31:07

If you think it is dangerous, you're not

00:31:07 --> 00:31:09

going to work, you're not going to the

00:31:09 --> 00:31:10

stores, then do not come to the masjid

00:31:10 --> 00:31:12

and you're forgiven.

00:31:12 --> 00:31:14

And we will have Jumu'ah because I'm

00:31:14 --> 00:31:15

going to live walking distance, I'll come.

00:31:15 --> 00:31:17

Whoever is able to come will come.

00:31:17 --> 00:31:18

If it is dangerous, you make a judgment

00:31:18 --> 00:31:19

call.

00:31:19 --> 00:31:21

By dangerous, I mean, you think the car

00:31:21 --> 00:31:21

will slip.

00:31:21 --> 00:31:22

Simple as that.

00:31:22 --> 00:31:25

The shari'ah actually allows even less than

00:31:25 --> 00:31:25

this.

00:31:25 --> 00:31:26

When it was raining a lot and it

00:31:26 --> 00:31:28

was very muddy, the Prophet ﷺ said to

00:31:28 --> 00:31:31

Bilal, give the adhan, pray in your houses.

00:31:32 --> 00:31:34

Simply because it was slippery and muddy and

00:31:34 --> 00:31:35

it was just a hassle to come.

00:31:35 --> 00:31:37

He allowed them to pray in their houses.

00:31:37 --> 00:31:38

This is much more than muddy.

00:31:38 --> 00:31:40

It might be dangerous in the roads.

00:31:40 --> 00:31:42

So make a judgment call if you feel

00:31:42 --> 00:31:45

there is a potential for an accident or

00:31:45 --> 00:31:46

something like this, you may stay at home

00:31:46 --> 00:31:47

and pray Salatul Dhuhr.

00:31:47 --> 00:31:49

And if you are able to come, inshaAllah

00:31:49 --> 00:31:50

we will have Jumu'ah over here.

00:31:51 --> 00:31:51

Jazakumullah khair.

00:31:51 --> 00:31:53

Assalamualaikum warahmatullahi wabarakatuh.
